Again, one of the areas in which some runners consistently let themselves down. After spending considerable amounts of money on new pairs of shoes, some runners then resort to wearing conventional sports socks which offer inadequate cushioning whilst absorbing and holding moisture like a sponge.
Good running socks are designed to help protect feet from the damaging effects of impact and blistering commonly associated with running. However, although in a dream world we would all run in luxuriously padded socks, in reality, most runners wear different types of sock according to their individual needs and circumstances. Generally speaking, a thinner, lighter weight sock will be more responsive and so ultimately be better for racing in but at the expense of comfort and protection. Conversely, a sock with more cushioning will naturally offer more protection but at the expense of weight and responsiveness. In addition to the degree of padding, when purchasing new socks, it is also essential to choose a style which is made of fabric which will actively move moisture away from the foot. Failure to do so, will inevitably lead to a build up of moisture which will render the foot more susceptible to blistering.
Bearing in mind this information, Thorlo socks have been designed and manufactured to three levels of cushioning:
Level One. Thin Cushioned socks are designed for individuals who require performance products for performance runs. Most individuals find that for the majority of racing and training needs, socks which incorporate level one cushioning more than match their expectations.
Level Two. Need something slightly more plush? Then level two will afford you all of the cushioning which you need without compromising the fit of your footwear. However, because these socks are thicker than one would normally experience, we do recommend trying level two socks on with your running shoes before going outside.
Level Three. The equivalent of chauffeur driven socks. This is the thickest, most cushioned level suitable for any distance runs. However, because the thickness of the sock, it will affect the fitting of your footwear and so as not to compromise the fitting of the shoe, should be worn whilst trying new shoes.
